Want to REALLY Explore
the Grand Canyon?
Try a Smooth Water Rafting Tour!
These “no-rapids” pontoon boat tours are a unique adventure that everyone can enjoy!
Looking for the Grand Canyon experience of a lifetime? Take a smooth water rafting trip down the Colorado River.
The river is the force that carved the canyon, and runs 270 miles through it before leaving the National Park and heading south to its endpoint in the Sea of Cortez in Mexico.
There are a number of smooth water float tours that immerse you in the excitement of the canyon and the river. Here are the most popular:
South Rim, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
This trip starts from Tusayan, AZ, located just minutes from the National Park’s main gate. You either take an airplane or a bus to the Page, AZ, home of Glen Canyon Dam. Here, you’ll go riverside and transfer to your pontoon raft.
The smooth water tour (no rapids), suitable for all ages including children four years and older, saunters downstream past famous Horseshoe Bend and includes a stop at a cliff famous for ancient Indian petroglyphs.
In all, it’s an invigorating 15-mile journey that ends at Lee’s Ferry, where you’ll disembark, board a luxury motor coach, make a stopover at Cameron Trading Post for souvenirs, before arriving back at Tusayan and the South Rim.
This trip is all inclusive and comes with pick up and drop off from Maswick Lodge in Grand Canyon Village, a bistro lunch, and drinks.
Come prepared. Yes, it’s a smooth-water trip, but consider bringing a wet bag for your camera. A swimsuit and a towel is always a great idea. Bring sunscreen. I also suggest a hat, especially one that’s brimmed.
This Grand Canyon South Rim smooth water float tour requires a full day and is worth every minute of it.
West Rim
Las Vegas travelers have several adventurous smooth water rafting options. The most popular are the ones that require a 4,000-foot helicopter descent to the bottom. There, you’ll walk upstream and board a pontoon boat for the smooth water rafting tour. To do this trip, you must book a bus/helicopter/raft package or a helicopter/raft package.
Hoover Dam
Las Vegas visitors can also opt to start a smooth water float trip from the base of Hoover Dam. The 11-mile journey to Willow Beach is an awesome experience. Consider bringing a bathing suit, sunscreen, and a hat. This trip also includes a helicopter tour to the bottom of the West Rim of the Grand Canyon.
